This website Template Maker provides the ability to break down most geometrical shapes into flat objects to see how the shaped "box" is constructed. This site would be great tool if attempting to create a unique shape in gingerbread, such a polygonal pyramid (for a gingerbread tower or gazebo) or any other unique shape.
